With school going back this month, teachers and parents alike are looking for out-of-the-box (or crate🤭) ways to keep kids entertained while learning new skills, Escape the Crate is the perfect solution!
Escape the Crate was created with families in mind and we try to vary themes and difficulty to ensure there is something for everyone. Our games work best played in small groups of six or fewer, which makes them great for family game days, homeschool activities, or after-school clubs.
We recommend our crates for ages 10 and up! The puzzles in the game are at the same level of difficulty as those in a regular escape room, so adults often find them difficult.
Children have enjoyed the games but with the help of adults. There is reading and problem-solving involved, so players younger than 10 may become frustrated, discouraged, or lose interest.
We have compiled a short list of the best games to play with kids - here are our picks:
1. Escape on Safari
In this game centered around a Safari in the South African bush, players are sent on a game drive to photograph the Big 5!
Due to unforeseen delays, your timeline is tight. You must complete the mission and return to the lodge before nightfall. The preserve becomes extremely dangerous after dark, and remaining outside the safe zone is not an option.
This thrilling adventure features plenty of animal sightings, puzzles set in the surrounding bush and an element of danger at the end. It is sure to keep kids entertained while giving them the opportunity to learn about animals both large and small!

2. Escape the Genie
This game takes you back in time to the Middle East where Scheherazade tells her wonderous tales in the Sultan's palace.
In this whirlwind ride of a game, some truth is found in the tales of 1001 Arabian Nights - a genie has been found in a lamp! Whoever found this lamp has the genie under their control, and with wishes to be granted to their every desire, the palace is in peril.
There are rumors that this villain controls forty thieves and holds a cavern of treasure already. They will be nearly impossible to beat. Hope is not all lost, however. There is another genie, not as powerful as the first, but waiting to be uncovered somewhere in the markets of the city. This “genie of the ring” might be your only hope to save the palace...

3. Escape from Camelot
In this game, you have been invited to a grand tournament in the legendary Camelot to compete against Sir Lancelot. When you arrive, however, you discover that the kingdom is in chaos. King Arthur has gone missing and the mythical “round table” has been broken into 4 pieces. It is up to you to take on 4 quests to reassemble the table and to restore Camelot to glory.
This game has it all - magic, dragons and knights!
Each quest can be played as a short game, which makes it perfect for younger players who may need to take breaks in between. Your choices will affect the game in Camelot. Two dastardly villains have taken over the kingdom and you need to fight back, but who you attack, and when, will change the difficulty of the game.
Toss in the round table, Merlin, a dragon attack, and the sword in the stone, and you have a quest for the ages!

5. Escape: The Games of Olympus
In this game, you are sent back to ancient Greece where a false prophet is spoiling future events and changing history in her wake. The only way to stop her prophecies is to compete in the fabled “Games of Olympus.”
Each challenge will pit you against famous Greek gods, goddesses, monsters, and heroes as you attempt to come out on top. Do you dare enter the maze of the Minotaur or soar into the sky on Apollo’s chariot? Can you face off against Medusa, or think you can resist the urge to open Pandora’s Box?
This box is split up into several smaller quests so that you can have your very own Games of Olympus. Perfect for playing with younger players and you can make a day of it and add some kid-friendly outdoor games too.

6. Escape on the High Seas
A great treasure has been taken by some of the most infamous pirates to ever sail the Caribbean, Calico Jack and Anne Bonny. In this swashbuckling adventure on the High Seas you will need to use cannons to sink other ships, climb to the highest mast, explore the bowels of the ship, and even sword fight your way to victory!
This game is great for kids as it is designed to be easier in the first chapter, to allow players to become acquainted with the mechanics of the game. The second chapter is a bit harder and the final chapter has the most challenging puzzles and concludes the story begun in the first part. This allows younger players to learn on the go, take breaks if needed and enjoy the game without becoming frustrated.
Besides the exciting pirate theme, there are interactive elements that kids will enjoy. This game is a winner!
The eyepatch was a nice touch. I knew about using the eyepatch to see in the dark from Mythbusters, but this is the first time that I've tried it. Nice addition to some awesome puzzles. - Janet W.
